Symbian opens mobile social networking development to app makers

symbian Symbian has kicked off an interesting option for mobile app developers today. “Open” mobile operating systems seem to revolve around a series of tools that allow developers to better optimise their apps for the OS. But Symbian has opened up its own internal development process - allowing developers to get involved in the process before it’s actually ready for launch.

Myriad Group AG (SIX: MYRN), a global leader in mobile technology with software in over 2 billion phones, today announced that it has acquired the brand, technology and 17 employees of privately-held Xumii, Inc., a provider of mobile social networking services based in San Mateo, California and Sydney, Australia. The transaction is not expected to have a material impact to Myriad revenue or EBITDA for the full fiscal 2009.

Two new services have flown out of Orange this morning. The first is a social networking aggregator called Social Life that will allow accessibility to Bebo, MySpace and Facebook with one log in. Users will also be able to publish updates, pictures etc – on all social networks at once.

German mobile discounter Simyo has created a Facebook fan page in a weird move to connect with consumers. The page, which can be viewed here: http://www.facebook.com/simyoDE, is an attempt by the company to further embrace social media and enable consumers to rate, slate, sing and dance about the mobile discounter.

In short it is from a so called social marketing company saying that Michael Jackson bought Twitter followers from it.

Number of people using the mobile internet for news has doubled since last year

Digital analytics company comScore today announced that the number of people accessing news and info on the mobile Internet more than doubled from 2008 to 2009. In January 09 63.2 million people accessed news and info on their mobile devices, and 35% of those (22.4 million users) did so daily.
