New Music service from Pure to launch

Flicking through an article in The Sunday Times Ingear supplement, GoMo News spotted a new music download service which is set to be launched any time now by Pure in the UK. This will be a subscription service – £4.99 per month – and supported by at least two dedicated mobile apps –one for iOS and the other for Android. There’s a little incentive for showing interest in what will be known as Pure Music. If you go to the Pure web site now here and register, you will be rewarded with a few music track. Only the first 10,000 who do so will get this free track (which GoMo News reckons is worth up to 99 pence), so hurry. Continue reading

GetJar’s Mork comments on App Store subs

Rating: Subscriptions are a good thing – mostly

“Subscription is a good thing because it allows publishers to monetize in a way that maximizes user value,” commented Patrick Mork, GetJar‘s CMO. It’s also a good thing because it gives publishers “the flexibility to charge consumers based on their preferences – i.e. one time payment versus cheaper periodic payments.” Subscription is also good for publishers since it allows them generate recurring billing which is more profitable for their bottom line. Misleading SMS ads get slapped down in Australia

Australia’s Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has targeted two companies it claims are misleading consumers using SMS. The ACCC won a court order against UK company AMV Holdings Limited for misleading adverts in magazines, and had an interim injunction leveled against Clarion Marketing Australia for hiding the costs of SMS subscription services.

Major break for video ringtones launches in Turkey

Rating: Vringo signs crucial deal with Avea
In answer to critics who’ve said that video ringtones cannot be monetarised, Vringo  has just announced a deal with Turkish operator, Avea. It’s aimed directly at the youth market.
