Mobile marketing startup, Warply, has hired two leading mobile industry figures – Kartik Ram and Sixto Arias. The new appointments come right at the conclusion of Warply’s first year of operation for and at a moment when an plan of international expansion is being implemented. Kartik Ram will join the company as director of sales for the United States and Asia and Sixto Arias has been appointed as a key advisor. Ram joins Warply from Adfonic, one of the world’s largest mobile advertising networks. Arias brings his wealth of experience to the company having founded the Mobile Marketing Association in Spain. Velti is celebrating the fact that its recent partnership with Channel 4 marks means that it has now worked with every major UK terrestrial broadcaster. Velti partnered with Cancer Research UK and the Channel 4 TV station to raise money through mobile donations for the live ‘Stand Up To Cancer‘ telethon back in October [2012]. UK seminar to examine benefits of mobile operator payments

The Association for Interactive Media & Entertainment (AIME) is holding one of its knowledge & networking seminars – this one is entitled, ‘Mobile operator payments’. It is rather cheekily billed as ’50 Shades of Revenue… from mobile payments’ [if you get the reference to the book] or ‘How mobile operator-billed payments can drive new sales and increase revenues … in ways you can only fantasise about! The seminar is run in association with in association with sponsors Velti, ImpulsePay and SNR Denton. The organisers say that mobile is opening a bridge between the physical and digital worlds since mobile devices are in everyone’s pockets. The seminar will look at whether it be proven that charging Internet-discovered, electronic goods, games, apps and other entertainment services to the mobile phone bill, is a good idea for digital merchants? Apple still hanging onto its mobile ads lead says Velti
Rating: Publishers may reduce time lag twixt iOS and Android app releases
Velti has been mining data from the mobile advertising it aggregates across over 40 ad networks. Figures for its July ‘State of Mobile Advertising’ report, show that Apple’s share of the smartphone and tablet sector is holding up against Android.
Apple devices currently claim 58 per cent of total in-app ad impressions, for example. However, its share is slipping arguably because Apple fanboys are awaiting the launch of the iPhone 5 next month [September 2012]. As Krishna Subramanian, CMO with Velti, points out, “We should also bear in mind that figures from IDC have indicated that 68 per cent of all smartphones shipped in 2012 have been Android models.” Continue reading

The facts behind user privacy according to Mobclix
Rating: Advertising network issues resolute rebuttal to Channel 4 show
Velti/Mobclix has respond to a story that ran on the UK’s Channel 4 News sounding a privacy alarm on Android apps sharing personal data with advertisers and alluding to the possibility that Mobclix facilitates the storage of private user data. The TV programme provided the basis for this earlier GoMo News story. Mobclix points out that the entire programme only suggests that it’s ‘possible‘ for all kinds of bad things to happen with user data on mobile devices, specifically when users download apps that use networks to target advertising. The reporter cites no actual evidence that a network indeed is compromising user privacy in this way. Continue reading
