VoX Mobile adds PayPal Mobile Wallet to Android app
Rating: Invest as little as $1 to make international calls
VoIP apps seem all the rage these days and VoX Mobile’s VoIP calling application is no exception. GoMobile News has covered this product previously (see our report here.) Now reseller, Techwave Marketing has contacted us again to promote the fact that the Vox mobile app has been updated to include support for the PayPal Mobile Wallet. So this facility has become available to PayPal’s over one hundred million users. GoMobile News isn’t a big fan of PayPal but some people obviously don’t share our concerns. Continue reading
Voxofon’s VoIP service overcomes the SMS gap
Rating: You can still send and receive texts from your featurephone mates
Here at GoMobile Towers we thought that the market for VoIP mobile apps was already overcrowded. However, it seems that Voxofon has come up with a bit of a new angle. It claims to have overcome the ‘SMS Gap’. Plenty of other VoIP apps allow their users to swap text messages (usually for free). But what happens when you come across a mate who is stubbornly sticking to his or her featurephone (and so can’t run Voxofon)? Voxofon has developed the technology to enable smartphone users to chat with non-smartphone users seamlessly at (obviously reasonable) VoIP rates. Continue reading
OpenCloud helps put operators back in driving seat
Rating: especially when it comes to developing premium voice services
The ‘cloud’ is helping to “put mobile operators back in control” – especially when it comes to voice based services, according to Mark Windle, head of marketing at OpenCloud, Until very recently, mobile operators were severely limited on the scope of ‘innovative’ new services which they could launch because they were almost entirely dependent on their infrastructure suppliers – the likes of Ericsson, Nokia Siemens and Alcatel- Lucent, to implement such services. Typical IN (Intelligent Network) back-ends were effectively proprietary but Windle claims the solutions his company’s software can provide are truly ‘Open’. Consequently, operators can utilise OpenCloud’s ‘Open’ platform to launch services which directly compete against OTT (Over-The-Top) providers – like Skype (and Apple with Facetime). Continue reading
Techwave points out Android version of Vox VoIP app
Rating: Promo codes for GoMobile readers, too
Obviously some of our stories become completely out of date and ‘Nokia gets mobile VoIP calls from VoX Communication‘ is a classic example. When Cian O’Sullivan wrote it two year ago the service only worked with the Nokia N900 since it was a Maemo app. But things have moved on rapidly and the Vox app now works on Android – dramatically enhancing the potential userbase. Hence, GoMobile News has been contacted by Techwave Marketing pointing out this major change. You can download the Vox app from Google Play here. Continue reading

MobileVoip fixes bug in its Symbian app @ GoMo’s request
Rating: Now the app runs on Nokias as well as Android & iOS
Here at GoMo News we’re always interested to here from app developers who dare to venture outside the bounds of Infamous Duo – Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android. So we were delighted to hear from MobileVoip that the company had just signed a brand new, Symbian version of its app. Naturally, we decided to test out the Symbian app and therein lies a tale. After much messing around we discovered why we were getting this particular error message: – ‘Unable to install. Constrained by the certificate.’ We discovered the answer on Nokia’s developer forum here. The app had indeed been signed but it wasn’t the production version, it would only run on a developer’s handset. So we had to get back in touch with MobileVoip. We’re very happy to announce that we are now up and running with the Symbian version. Continue reading

Vyke launches mobile VoIP “reseller” for telecoms

One company that wants to get in on that trend is VoIP provider Vyke – which has today announced the launch of Vyke Reseller, a global initiative to make selling it’s Voup vouchers easy for telecoms resellers. Today, VoIP provider Vyke is launching it’s new iPhone app, to save customers money on international calls. Continue reading
