Tappity Mobile Search and Rendering Engine
Rating: Tappin, Rockin and Rollin
GoMo News discovered Tappity this morning following a blog evangelist post. We were skeptical but it works – and more that that it works well.
We signed up and then submitted three sites. The first was GoMo News WAP site – which didn’t work. This wasn’t a good start but we continued. We submitted BKI Media. This time we clicked the “make mobile ready” button. Then we submitted msearchblog. This time before clicking submit we previewed the new “mobile ready service”.
Guess what? It rocks. The pages were perfectly rendered in a clear form that was simple to use and navigate.
So, we deleted the WAP site link for GoMo and went with the Tappity rendering engine. Again the results were impressive. The typical RSS conversion problems we have with the standard WAP site disappeared and here was a clear as crystal GoMo News WAP site – completely mobile ready.
An interview with Tappity is now needed as this browsing experience is more than just shrinking technology it seems as though it’s a mix of different existing competing technologies. With msearchblog it showed the side bar first before the meat of the text. But with GoMo it knew where the meat was in the first instance. This could be because the first column is automatically viewed and rendered first – or maybe there is some intelligence on Typepad blogs… not sure but we are going to find out!
Remember Mobile Browser Competitive Intelligence is in next months Mobile Search Analyst.
