Tegic wants to smarten up the mobile ecosystem

Tegic Communications, an AOL company, has used CES in Las Vegas to demonstrate what it describes as its new, open software application framework. The plan is that companies that deploy the framework get connected devices and services to market faster, without having to develop essential software components themselves. They can choose how they want to customise and differentiate their products and services, including which features, based on what they want to provide for their target audience, geographic location, or even vertical market.
The horseshoe in the boxing glove is that Haier America is the first partner to implement the framework and plans to develop a new connected media player powered by the SmartScreens technology. And Haier America is the US Sales and Marketing division of the international Haier Group, China’s largest appliance maker.
“Our vision is to provide a new portable media player,” said Michael Jemal, President and CEO of Haier America. “Tegic’s SmartScreens software and media features will help enable us to make that happen.”
You’d better believe it. iPods are soooo 2006.
