On the Telecom Italia analyst call yesterday morning the following was announced:

• Revenues were slightly down by 1.8% but that is because of the changes to fixed mobile termination rates that the acquisition of AOL germany.

• Value added services saw the most impressive growth up 14.5%. Revenues were boosted by the impressive uptake of mobile broadband services (up 51% in one year).

• Voice revenues surprisingly went down – but is obviously due to more competitive pricing, interconnection rate reductions, increased competition.

• TIM has 35.3 million subscribers 16.2% of which (5.7 million) are on 3G.

I am currently reviewed the TIM mobile internet portal and its definitely one of the richest in design and features out there but the user interface on 3G is significantly better. More needs to be done to upgrade users to 3G as this will drive data growth. Voice reduction needs to be tackled to by more focus on voice communities such as TIM Tribu – but for the mature market. Mobile youth doesn’t have the funds to bolster voice revenues.
