Telecom Italia selects Maponair from Novasys for LBS

Novasys is a Swiss provider of geo centric information for mobile devices, its been chosen by Telecom Italia and Volt Delta International for the FIAT Blue and Me service.
FIAT owners can access the Blue and Me box and will then be called by Telecom Italia and and can receive local info. Additional info after the voice service can be sent to users on the mobile phone.

The FIAT car owners have now access to the new “Blue and Me” box. By pressing the button of this box, they will receive a call from the call centre of Telecom Italia. The call centre operators use Maponair® on the Move via a WEB connection. This application enables to give the users all sorts of Location Based information they need such as hotels, Car dealers, banks, etc. which are located closest to them, as well as the driving directions to get there. This service relies on the technology and the content of Maponair® on the Move from Novasys. The service is now extended and covers France, Germany, Spain and the United Kingdom.
What do we think?
Is this new? Yawn. I suppose the service offers local search out of Italy – but a guide book and A-Z would probably be cheaper. Could you drive a FIAT to the UK? By the time you got there you would use the Blue and Me box to call a doctor, ouch.
