Spanish operator Telefónica Moviles has launched the Player X games distribution platform on it’s mobile portal. 100% Mobile is a mobile games aggregator and shopfront, allowing gamers to play products from both global and local producers. The portal includes features like “Try Before You Buy” and a variety of pricing models including rental and pay per play.
Telefónica is the second Tier One operator to launch Mobile 100%, after O2 UK last year. Player X Distribution plans to further expand it’s on-portal presence in Europe during 2009.
From the release:
“Telefónica is the second operator to launch 100% Mobile and we are confident the new site will significantly drive consumption and ARPU as we have successfully done so with O2 UK,” said Tony Pearce, Player X CEO.
What we think?
And so another succesful aggregator moves on-portal – not the biggest news in the world, but it’s a further sign that integration is pretty much taking care of itself. What does interest me here is the varying pricing models on offer from Player X. Being able to choose with Try Before You Buy, rental and full-payment are good options for the user-end. Not so long ago, mobile games producer Fishlabs announced an interesting new sales method as well. It leaves me wondering whether mobile gaming is going to be the force that drives innovation in mobile payments?
