Telemak chooses Envivio to expand its IPTV service for operators
IPTV specialist Envivio has announced it has a new agreement with Telemak to provide better mobile TV services for operator. Telemak provides mobile multimedia streaming for operators, and will be using Envivio services to improve its already existing mobile and web television solutions.
From what the two companies are saying, they’re both quite proficient in streaming digital video content to both the mobile and on-line Web - it’s just that Telemak is bigger, but Envivio is better at it. The agreement is that Telemak will start selling and supporting Envivio solutions to Telemak customers.
From the release:
“This is an essential upgrade of Telemak’s own Mobile TV and Web TV headend operations center, as well as a significant enhancement to our encoding solution catalogue,” says Christophe Lenaerts, Telemak CEO. “Envivio is the world leader in encoding solutions for Telemak’s markets. We needed to offer our customers the possibility to either buy Envivio solutions through Telemak or to get full headend operations from our dedicated team. Thanks to this agreement, Telemak will now be able to provide its customers with the highest quality live television and radio services to any mobile or web TV subscriber.”
“Telemak recognized that a superior headend solution is critical to delivering the high quality, high value services that attract and retain subscribers,” said Rich Stanfield, COO of Envivio. “We are very pleased the Telemak has selected Envivio encoding solutions to expand its service offerings and enhance it operations.”
What we think?
Telemak already provides a big mobile TV service for Belgian operator Mobistar - putting 40 television and radio channels on mobile. Part of the Envivio service is that it will integrate all of this into one service that will broadcast across mobile, on-line and (specifically) iPhone. People keep on pushing mobile TV, but I’m not convinced of its future - TV is what you slump in front of in the evening when you’ve finished for the day. If you’re accessing video on your mobile, it’s more likely to be video services like YouTube where you know what you want to watch before logging on.
