Telus introduces Qix Mobile Search and Discovery Engine
Rating: Qix I would say more a discovery tool that a search engine

Zi Corporation’s QIX discovery tool will be made available on devices from Telus. Telus is a Canadian mobile operator that has just signed up to QIX services.
What is Qix?
Qix describes itself as a mobile search and discovery engine but I think that it’s actually a discovery tool for the device to make the UI crystal clear and intuitive. The way it does this is to reduce the number of clicks on a device so that users can navigate menus very quickly.
There is a lot of confusion about mobile search and discovery and Zi Corp’s term here does not help! The same is true for an article recently featured in Totaltele. Qix is a discovery tool that faciliates users to find.
But the teacher in me is coming out -back to the information…
I have tested Qix with Virgin and T-Mobile in the UK and I find the product very simple and fast. After a while the handset knows what you want –but that is because users and humans often use the same things or the access the same features regularly.
From the press release
“TELUS is proud to bring Zi Corporation’s powerful engine to our customers. This will vastly increase our customers’ mobile experience,” said Stephen Ospalak, vice president of Subscriber Devices at TELUS. “The fact that Qix is an innovative and user-friendly engine and is compatible with the multiple handsets and PDAs we offer, were key factors in our decision to choose this engine.”
“We are very pleased that TELUS will be the first North American carrier to offer Qix. TELUS is a proven industry leader and innovator in the Canadian market, and we strongly believe that for them to choose our engine proves to the industry the excellence of our product,” said Milos Djokovic, President and CEO of Zi Corporation.
