Tesco to put iCat amongs the UK’s iPhones

Rating: Launching both versions of iPhone online and in stores

In a move which will inevitably put the cat amongst the pigeons in terms of UK pricing, Tesco Mobile has announced that intends to offer the iPhone 3G and 3GS in both Tesco Phone shops and online via Tesco Direct.

There’s no indication of pricing, yet. Nor an actual launch date although the company promises that they will be available “shortly”. As with other UK operators, like Vodafone, potential customers can register their interest by going online here.

Details will be emailed to enquirers or they can opt to be called on their existing mobile phone.

Tesco is able to launch the iPhone because the network itself, Tesco Mobile, is actually a joint venture with O2 – the original supplier of the iPhone in the UK.

So with Orange, Vodafone, O2 and now Tesco Mobile all able to offer the iPhone there’s bound to be price pressure on both the handset cost and data tariffs. GoMo News wonders whether any of the other MVNOs will start to offer the iPhone, too.
