Tesco WAP mobile advertising

by: Bena Roberts Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Tesco Mobile attracted 300,000 visitors in December and is now sending out media packs to offer advertising on the portal.

4th Screen Advertising served some adverts on portal during a trial earlier on and shock horror found 60% female usage! What a surprise!

Also click through rates of 3 to 7 percent.

What we think?
Finally some more realistic click through rates –but if I am honest – for the first time I had expected more!

Why?
Well, look I am also a mum that enjoys shopping. I love buying and Tesco has a huge range. I would start to implement a coupon or click to win promotional campaign for Tesco WAP users. This would mean, in the kind of way that Seeker Wireless also wants to run LBS advertising campaigns that special offers or promotions were available on click through.

I know that if I was in a shop and it said GBP 2 off nappies if you click this ad and say the code to the cashier (or something similar) I would.

The female audience is great. It’s targeted and in general there are a lot of mothers, sisters, daughters out there that might not buy for themselves but will get something for kids, grandchildren, cousins, sisters etc. I reckon that we will see some high CTR on Tesco WAP portal if the advertisers are right.
