The Idle Screen

Mobile search is not only about browsing and surfing the mobile Internet. It is coupled with accessibility and navigating the mobile device as well. On top of this there is also the ability to push mobile services directly to the consumer via the use of idle screen technology.
The idle screen is the first screen that is viewed when on the mobile device. It can also be described at the point of which the mobile phone becomes inactive and switches to the “off” or “screen saver” mode.
New business models are being developed from the idle screen. The idle screen is enabling mobile operators and device manufacturers the chance to continue to captivate the mobile user and nurture the mobile experience even when the device is not being used.
The ways in which this is being achieved is by on device content, mobile broadcasting and mobile advertising. There are several categories of players in the mobile Idle screen space already from pure advertising companies, mobile operators, mobile search companies and mobile device manufacturers.
Here is a summary of the solutions and services currently available. Analysis of each company and service will be available in the next issue of The Mobile Search Analyst.
