Rating: and the winners are

Despite me thinking I was going to be swallowed and it was all embarrassing – no one bothered with me being a plus one after that one remark (it must have been the horror on my face)… and the fact that I was the only woman on the table.

But, the food was good the wine was flowing and the entertainment was well… I think for political reasons I am going to stay quiet on this one… then the awards were handed out.

The winners are:

Best Mobile Advertising company – AdMob
Best Mobile Search company – Google

OMG. One thing is for sure. Mobile Entertainment people have no clue about mobile search and no clue about mobile advertising as these “winners” were probably picked by the fact that they were the only names recognised on the list.

I have decided to run my own mobile search awards. GoMo News and BKI Media might not be have the glitz or MEF or ME but we do know search and advertising.

Everyone says I give Google and AdMob a hard time. UM. Yes. That’s my job – I might be a blogger but I’m also a bloody good analyst (even if I say so myself) and the volume of traffic on the blog and the business intelligence sales are proving it. But enough of the self-evangelising (its for the Running The Gauntlet investors) and moving swiftly on.

AdMob is a mobile advertising company that boasts about the number of Ad’s served? What is the value of that and what does it mean?

Its like school ground talk, “My house is bigger than your house”; “my boobs are bigger than yours”; “my dad is bigger than your dad”; “I served more mobile ads than you”.

All of the above mean nothing. So 1.7 billion ads a month … yawn. Now its getting boring. If that was 1.7 billion click-throughs per month not merely served I would be impressed – come on AdMob please provide some real figures. (Please see today’s Mobile 2.0 Analyst out later today for full review of AdMob marketing campaign).

Then Google. The mobile search experience is not the best. I am an online Google fan and I Google everything. But mobile search – just ain’t got it. I would stick my neck out and say actually mobile search isn’t right for anyone at the moment but its getting there.

My point is to provide made for mobile experiences and searches for consumers that are going to drive value for mobile operators (not Google) – but I recommend anyone really interested in this if – by any strange chance you aren’t reading it – sign-up for The Mobile Search Analyst today.
