The mobile threat is big business for Bradford Networks

Rating: Security expert provides mobiles with secure access

As the proliferation of mobile devices continues to accelerate, organisations of all types are tasked with ensuring these devices do not compromise network security. But they also want to ensure that authorised devices can obtain secure, convenient network access. As a consequence, security expert, Bradford Networks has experienced a record-breaking fiscal year 2011. The company firmly believes that most of this new business has been driven by security concerns around mobile device proliferation and the ‘consumerisation’ of IT.“The Network Access Control market is continuing to evolve,” explained Dan Haley, CEO with Bradford Networks. “The onslaught of mobile devices such as iPhones, iPads, Androids and BlackBerries has put considerable strain on security and IT resources.

It has created a tremendous need for a product like Network Sentry that can provide unparalleled visibility into devices and users on a network.”

Previously, the Network Nasties with organisations’ IT departments has simply said “No” to the use of mobile devices. “Not on my network,” being the common response.

“Saying ‘No’ to business use of smartphones, tablets and similar devices in the enterprise is no longer an option,” commented John
Pescatore, a vp with Gartner Research.  ”These mobility trends point to network access control as a critical capability for supporting business demands, while managing the risk of allowing a wide range of devices access to sensitive networks and information.”

Bradford’s Network Sentry offerings meet these security challenges in a number of ways. One of these is ‘Automated Discovery.’ This automatically finds all IP devices that are connected, or attempting to connect, to wired or wireless networks.

This facility then enables organisations to discover and manage all consumer and mobile devices connecting to their networks, including iPhones, iPads, Androids, BlackBerryies, tablets, eReaders and more.

What Bradford forgets to say is that providing a secure gateway is one thing. What you also need is decent virus/security software running on your connected devices, too.
