The paying bloggers issue
I think there was an article on Tech Crunch that started this -but I picked it up here on Pat Phelan’s blog:
I just to want to say once more that what you get from GoMo is a professional service and I think that everyone should check references of any bloggers they employ. Unlike some I don’t like doing my dirty laundary in public - so that is my last word on this - if any more is said - its a lawyer and defamation claims.
All I want to say is that GoMo News is a business blog. If you sponsor us we will support you and promote you and be honest about you. We will not evangelise or lie about you. I have to say, I really like Flixwagon. I loved Xen Mendelsohn the lead blogger and she is the lady we dealt with when FlixWagon sponsored GoMo News. Yes, they paid for our phones and SIM and banner - but that was clear.
I could use Qik and Kyte moving forward -but there is something about loyalty and “needing change” I am not paid to use Flixwagon. The company sponsored GoMo once at CTIA. I like them and they are not paying me to say this.
But I do know bloggers that are paid - what about PR or social media bloggers - that is their business model? I think that this is a can of worms and the blogosphere is already more political than it should be.
Saying that - I have also made so many friends that are bloggers and we promote each other because we want to or blog love and no other reason. It is a toughie but - I wouldn’t blame the business.
