The social networking and mobile VC funding boom
Rating: what goes up, must come down
This has been a very hectic September for GoMo News and BKI Media with many social, business, speaking, commentating and blogging engagements. But now my feet are on the ground and will be here until Tuesday, I can finally do email.
So this month I missed a number of blogging opportunities. Most of them in the VC space and this is quick round-up of the press releases that I received and missed. They tell a very, very interesting tale.
• WPP USD 12 million in Visible Technologies
• GeoSentric received USD 13.1 million
• MTV launches ThinkMTV
• Pro elite gets USD 2.5 million funding
• Trutap gets USD 6.5 million
• Snapvine gets USD 10 million
• Tipped.co.uk launches (oh, I blogged this one)
• Dopplr gets series A funding
• Zag gets USD 13.5 million
• Jaxtr gets USD 10 million
• Cigna gets 1.7 million
• Orange and Bebo launch in the UK (mobile service)
• Bluepulse gets USD 6 million
• Kajeet gets USD 36.8 million
• Groove Mobile gets USD 6 million
• Quattro Wireless gets USD 12.3 million (did this one too).
WOW. I am sure this isn’t everything but this is just September. We are experiencing a VC funding explosion and the three main segments are GPS, mobile social networking and mobile advertising. I am just learning how all of this works but it seems as though there are categories set by investors for funding as 2 million, 6 million and 12 million seem to be the “trigger” amounts of investing.
I don’t claim to be an expert on funding but this is amazing. Is there so much money floating around and why aren’t stories such as UK Tennis up-coming stars banned by being rude on bebo scare these companies from investing?
So many businesses have already banned Facebook in the office it can go two ways – Facebook mobile could explode or ….not? Whatever happens I can’t keep up. I loved Twitter at launch but I don’t have time to update it and I can’t be bothered. My Facebook use is also down, but I still love getting Friend requests and I get excited by everyone… I have only ever been offered sex on MySpace and no one I know is on Bebo (so I don’t use it)… Is there enough cake for everyone. Someone seems to think so.
