Rating: it’s usually crashed way before the fat lady sings

By Annie Turner

Norwegian Opera Software has released the new version of Opera Mobile 8.65 for Windows Mobile, available from www.opera.com/mobile with a free 30-day trial. Allegedly, after the positive reception and rapid market adoption of Opera Mobile for the Windows Mobile platform, Opera decided to extend its offer to cover Smartphone and Pocket PC users. Today’s release, Opera Mobile 8.65 for Windows Mobile, is the culmination of user feedback and beta testing etc etc.

Well here’s my feedback. We’re pretty keen on Opera Mobile and greatly admire the fact that it runs on pretty much anything, but lunch with Steve Ballmer or not, I’m a lot less keen on Windows Mobile. Believe me, I did try to get along with it, using HTC’s answer to the iPhone, Touch. In the end I gave up because it crashed repeatedly and my life is too short – I do appreciate that other people (Bena Roberts, for one) have rather more patience being PC users, but I refer you all to John Gapper’s marvellous article in the Financial Times on 19th September in which he asserts that the trouble with Windows of all stripes is that it is based on an unstable foundation.
