Smaato the in-application mobile advertising solution provider and Third Screen Media the mobile advertising services and software provider have entered into a strategic partnership.
Together they will enhance each others reach within the smartphone and advertising business. Third Screen’s will sell, manage and deliver advertising for Smaato’s mobile advertising platform.

From the press release“We are thrilled to add the SOMA platform to our publisher portfolio. This added reach to predominantly smartphone users will help our agency clients and brands target a very attractive consumer demographic via the mobile channel”, says Jeff Janer, CMO, Third Screen Media.
“Third Screen Media will be a great partner for us to market the Smaato network of ad-enabled applications by our SOMA platform. As the recognized leader for mobile advertising for quality content our mobile developers will take advantage from Third Screen Media’s well established sales channels in the USA,” comments Ragnar Kruse, co-founder and CEO Smaato Inc. “This partnership accelerates our in-application mobile advertising offering.”

What we think
Third Screen offers traditional web style mobile advertising to consumers. Partnering with Smaato will allow it to get into the applications as well. This could lead to ODP advertising on mobile gaming advertising. The partnership is indeed a strategic next step for Third Screen Media.
But, what happened to AOL and the rumour AOL was going to buy Third Screen? I questioned AOL on this and it said “it didn’t comment on rumours”. But that doesn’t help does it.
In any case – Third Screen is acting (at least) as if it’s not up for sale.
