TV Mobile Advertising Testing Tools from GoldSpot Media
GoldSpot Media has announced Trial in a Box.
Yikes? Trial in a Box?
Yes that is the name of a “first rapid prototyping platform providing a controlled environment for evaluating the profitability of targeted, interactive mobile broadcast TV advertising models”.
What does that mean?
I think that what GoldSpot is doing, is that is enabling vendors or brands to test different mobile advertising campaigns for TV services. In a try or test before you deploy type of way.
From the press release
“Virtually everything is in place today, including mature broadcast technologies, standardization, mobile broadcast terminals, high quality content and consumer acceptance, to make interactive mobile broadcast TV a reality. The glaring exception is proof that it can be profitable to the entire value-chain,” said Staffan Nilsson, senior vice president, Business Development, GoldSpot Media. “Trial-in-a-Box is designed to help solve the catch-22 – the first controlled opportunity for mobile TV service providers and ad inventory holders to determine how to optimally integrate advertising to create highly-profitable mobile video services across broadcast and 3G.”
What we think?
Hmm. I think this is one way that GoldSpot can leverage its position in the advertising stakes by offering services to assist brands to find the best multimedia service. It’s an interesting idea, but I am not sure how GoldSpot will get into the game. If they will sell or license this to brands or work with advertisers to offer controlled and managed services of the advertising value chain – by offering this measurement service.
But in any case, it’s definitely innovative.

One Response to “TV Mobile Advertising Testing Tools from GoldSpot Media”
Bena,
The idea behind Trial-In-A-Box is to allow ad inventory owners (carriers, broadcasters, content houses) to develop advertising business cases to offset subscription and handset subsidies.
A simplistic view of our effort is to determine the number of available rebroadcast TV spots that can be monetized on the mobile based on average usage per day, and develop business models around inventory / revenue sharing concepts between the players.
End of the day, we are making a humble effort to eliminate the penny gap for the mobile TV services.
