Rating: SKYPE SMS me

Despite having IM – Skype feels that it still needs SMS. TynTec has signed a deal with Sype and now its messaging platform will be used to send Skype SMS globally.

From the press release:
“Working with Skype, who is at the cutting edge of the Internet communications revolution, to deliver high volumes of SMS traffic is a testament to the flexibility and quality of our offering,” said TynTec’s CEO Michael Kowalzik.

“By offering single-point access to the worldwide mobile telecoms network we are helping Skype to deliver messages on a worldwide scale, opening up the potential for new revenue streams,” Kowalzik added.

What we think
The business model is not clear.. will SMS also be free? Why would you SMS when calling is free…. Only if the voice quality is awful.
We fear that SMS has been included as SKYPE is going to offer SMS mobile advertising on its platform and create a new revenue model.
