Types of Mobile Community

by: Bena Roberts Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

OK as a follow up to yesterday’s post on Mobile Social Networking –here is an overview of Mobile Community services. I am currently attending Web 2.0 in Berlin and will do my best to mention anything exciting!

Community Offers
Limitless Exchange

Limitless exchange is the ability to communicate for free or for a fixed monthly cost with other members in the community. Transparent charges or the ‘free’, adfunded business model will mean that big bills are avoided and the community becomes the preferred communication channel.

Virtual Space
Virtual Space is an area for self expression. This can be shared with other community members or remain private. Photos can be uploaded or downloaded and videos saved or shared. For example, Live Cargo and fastmobile enable sharing and collaboration of any content: a consumer can create content, such a picture or video and make it available to any users, or provide access only to selected users.

Mobile community themes
*mobile operator communities;
*portal communities;
*WAP site communities – GoFresh’s itsmy.com;
*game communities - Mobagetown.

Sophisticated Interaction
Sophisticated interaction brings mobile networking and chatting into play. Instead of one to one conversation users can connect, re-connect or interconnect in chat rooms or via blogs. Finding similar and like-minded individuals becomes a reality and discovery develops and enhances communication.

MyShout

MyShout or MyView can be expressed in the mobile community. This is not only about releasing energy or frustration, it’s about personal networking and a way to communicate aspirations or show.

This is not to be confused with simple rating mechanisms where people either thumbs up or thumbs down services.
