UK Apple fanboys can get ready for 5s/c availability

We think the 5s vs 5c price differential isn’t big enough

Well, in the UK, Apple fanboys (and fangirls, of course) will finally be able to get their hands on an iPhone 5s or 5c. Given the 5s sports Touch ID fingerprint technology, perhaps that should read ‘get their fingers on the new iPhones’. Anyway, if you’re shopping around for a deal, we’ve decided to provide something for you to compare against for the 5s. Namely Vodafone’s list of tariffs for consumer 12 & 24 month Vodafone Red for 4G; or consumer 12/24 month Vodafone Red plans for 3G. Vodafone also gives times for more 4G availability outside of the capital (London) and deals on ‘instant’ upgrades for three specific devices.

For some reason, Vodafone has picked owners of three specific devices to target with swift & easy upgrade offers.

The list includes the regular iPhone 5 (naturally), plus Samsung SIII or Galaxy Note II owners. That’s an interesting choice because GoMo News would have picked Nokia Lumia owners to try to entice.

If owners of such a device are not yet due for an upgrade, they can bring it back to one of Vodafone’s stores.

Then Vodafone will knock 75 per cent off their remaining charges; let them upgrade early; and start a new 4G plan.

Trying to dispel the impression that only Londoners will enjoy a 5s/c on 4G, Vodafone points out that a mere week later [28th September 2013] 4G will be available on its network in Birmingham, Coventry, Leicester, Nottingham and Sheffield.

By Q1 2014 the list will include Bradford, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester and Newcastle.

It seems that the cheapest a Brit can get the 5s on Vodafone will therefore be for a mere £19 ($30).

Full whack without a contract, fans should be able to get a 5s for £549 (16GB), £629 (32GB) and £709 (64GB).[ Incidentally, Vodfone has 4G SIM only deals, too.]

That compares to £469 (16GB) and £549 (32GB) for a 5c. GoMo News just doesn’t see that as enough of a price differential to opt for the 5c.

Beside Vodafone, of course, budding iPhone 5s/c owners can also try EE, O2, Three, Carphone Warehouse and Phones4u.

As per norm, the Press Association has come up with pics of a couple of fans queuing outside Apple’s flagship London store.

But worryingly for Tim Cook, there don’t appear to be many of them. That contrasts with Japan where fans even kept queuing in a typhoon.
