UpSNAP is a mobile search provider for audio entertainment. MuseGobal is a search management systems provider. Both have partnered to create mobile metasearch technology that finds ringtone or other audio and music content for consumers.
Basically the search technology searches multiple sites simultaneously. So all the ringtone sites are found and placed in one result. Duplicated searches will be erased and the results will all be unique.
From the press release
Tony Philipp, UpSNAP CEO, was looking for a better way to organize and deliver content to customers of its free and subscription mobile services. “There are unique challenges in providing a usable and functional mobile search experience, and with the huge influx of personal entertainment choices it became apparent that a mobile metasearch solution was needed,” states Philipp. “In essence, UpSNAP will function as a one-stop shop for mobile users who want instant access to wireless features such as mobile radio, ringtones and games.”
“This is an exciting new category of search,” adds Kate Noerr, MuseGlobal CEO, “and working with UpSNAP puts us on the leading edge of mobile entertainment. The Muse technology metasearch capabilities being folded into the UpSNAP experience will not only allow users to search for and find mobile content more effectively, it will also give ringtone and wallpaper suppliers and advertisers greatly improved exposure to their prospective customers.”
What we think
This is great and simple but it needs to be on mobile and not merely available via UpSNAP. Finding content is a headache and searching needs to be categoriesed not only by genre but also by time. For example; many young hip users are only interested in the very latest sounds and tracks and want to search “just released” rather than a whole directory of hip hop or rock.
