Verizon, Google, Microsoft - threesome?

by: Bena Roberts Friday, November 7th, 2008

I am very confused and I hope I am not the only one. I read this today : http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122601623516906863.html?mod=googlenews_wsj

The guys at the Wall Street Journal say that Google wants to be the Ad player on Verizon. But Microsoft is cutting a sweeter deal (very normal and usual in mobile advertising).

Is there an underlining secret story here that I am missing? If anyone can clarify… please do.

It’s called misplaced greed and fear. Verizon is afraid of Google because it’s helping to take control away from the cell carriers. So it thinks getting a higher percentage of ineffective Microsoft ads is better than getting a lower percentage of highly successful Google ads.
