Veveo launches vtap video search via Sony Ericsson
A new video search service aimed at Sony Ericsson mobile phone owners called vtap has just been launched by Veveo. This video search facility is specifically tailored for handset users by requiring the minimum of keystroke input.
vtap also maintains a continually updated index of over150 million web videos. The service will be offered free via Sony Ericsson’s ‘Fun & Downloads’ web portal. Users have to register first with Sony Ericsson before accessing this portal.
Veveo’s vp for Strategy and Business Development argues that, “Video is the future of the mobile internet – users will soon turn to video for the majority of their entertainment and information needs.”
Vtap aims to cover all the popular video hosting sites on the internet including YouTube, MySpace and DailyMotion. Vtap’s incremental search displays results as soon as a user types the first character. The results are then refined as more characters are entered.
The system groups results together logically into folders. This enables a user to choose between the incremental search and browsing dynamically created menus. Naturally, vtap encourages users to set up a profile so that it remembers what a user likes to watch and then saves his or her favourites. Users can collect, organise and share the videos they like.
Curiously vtap has been first released to a restricted set of handset owners namely those who own JP8 (Java Platform
enabled Sony Ericssons such as the W890. After that JP7 enabled models like the W880i will be supported. In addition to English, however, vtap aims to support French, Italian, German and Spanish.
Veveo didn’t explain exactly why vtap is currently restricted to just the one portal and one make of mobile phones.
