Video content delivery an idiot could use
Rating: A concept so simple it should have been done before

The bane of any video content delivery system
for mobile phones has previously been the need to create and test client apps
on all the leading makes and models of handsets.
UK based Intellistream reckons it has overcome this obstacle by using standard 3G video
calls. This makes it completely clientless. Yet its system can still deliver content
and services over that 3G link.
The product was initially developed with entertainment applications in mind and
gambling in particular. However, the recent scandals surrounding UK TV game
shows have caused the company to change its focus somewhat.
One of the applications that it is speaking to a potential customer about is
dating. It’s mocked up a demo system where a participant can view a potential
partner’s video clip and then record his or her own message.
One of the advantages to this particular system is that if two interested
parties want to talk to each other live and direct they can. The beauty is that
by going through Intellistream’s servers neither party would have the other’s
phone number.
Intellistream that offering such a service would have a direct appeal to those
companies who already offer dating service through local newspapers. Adding
this video capability would make it an even stronger proposition for the
public.
Intellistream is perfectly capable of connecting such calls at premium rates as
well as at standard rates. Interestingly it was also able to demonstrate to me
that it has got shortcode video call dialling working. It even succeeded over 3
UK’s
network!Jim Beagle, Intellistream’s CEO, told me
that his company expects to announce some major clients in the near future. I
wouldn’t be at all surprised.
The user interface which the company employs is so simple even an idiot could
use it. The trouble is finding a British Standard Idiot to text this claim out
on.
