Rating: Canadian charities receive free advertising space on mobile ad network

Smartphone advertiser Viigo has donated a chunk of it’s mobile advertising inventory to three Canadian charities this Christmas. The move is meant to help the foundations to spread their message this festive season.

The ALS Society of Canada, Canadian Cardiac Rehabilitation Foundation and Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation of Canada will all receive free space on 45 channels on the Viigo platform. The free spaces have been available to them from December 16th, and will stay open until January 7th.

From the release:

“With tens of millions of page views per month, we believe we can assist these organizations raise their visibility and generate funds for research,” said Mark Ruddock, CEO, Viigo. “Each of the ALS Society of Canada, the Canadian Cardiac Rehabilitation Foundation and the Colitis Foundation of Canada are doing great work to help people who have been afflicted as well perform research to remedy disease.”

What we think?

It’s easy to be cynical about stories like this, and postulate on the various reasons and motivations for this offer. But it is Christmas, and it’s nice to see charities getting free aid from any quarter. Nice job there, Viigo. It certainly puts the itsmy.com offer to the car companies in perspective!
