Virgin Mobile France partners with independent mobile app store GetJar
Virgin Mobile France has announced a huge partnership with mobile application store GetJar. The platform, device and OS agnostic app store will selling its entire selection of free mobile apps through the French operators soon-to-launch app store.
The Virgin Mobile France app store should be launched by Wednesday of this week - the 17th of June. At launch, it will be able to offer the entire catalogue of 45,000 apps from GetJar, along with other content like ringtones and premium games.
From the release:
“GetJar’s track record, extensive cross platform catalogue, scale and expertise were really what we were looking for in an app store partner,” explained Julien Allisy, Marketing and Communication director of Virgin Mobile France. “We can immediately offer our consumers who subscribed to our new unlimited data plans the largest range of apps on the largest range of handsets, via a platform which is trusted around the world.”
“This important partnership underlines the broad international demand for mobile apps across all handsets and platforms, and the reputation GetJar has developed as a one-stop-shop for companies looking to provide exciting mobile applications to their consumers,” said Ilja Laurs, founder and CEO of GetJar Networks. “Demand for mobile apps is growing at a huge rate and this partnership will allow Virgin Mobile France to offer its customers new and exciting content across a large range of mobile phones.”

As operators and manufacturers begin to bring companies like GetJar in closer, the “walled garden” accusations that have been levelled at application stores will begin to fizzle.
