Rating: New BlackBerry device ships with GPS

The new BlackBerry® Storm™ 9500 Smartphone is being launched today, exclusively on the Vodafone network. Shipping free with the device is Vodafones Find & Go software, a mapping and direction service. Designed by Telmap, it offers real time 3D maps and traffic alerts. A nice feature is that cell data positioning will provide a back-up service when you’re out of GPS coverage.

Comment from Oren Nissim, CEO, Telmap

“This launch marks the point at which the world caught up with the Apple iPhone. The BlackBerry Storm perfectly combines experience and technology integration. Vodafone’s Find & Go new features provide consumers with an experience that goes beyond simple turn-by-turn navigation with search and the availability of real-time local information, and towards tomorrow’s generation of mobile location based services”

What we think?

This is certainly a nice piece of software, but there’s a lot of navigation software around these days and this is by no means a killer app. The fact that it ships free with the device speaks volumes. It seems consumers expect good GPS as a given with smartphones these days.
