Vodafone and Yahoo! Voice Calls!

Rating: Oh Dear

Yesterday I was enthusiastic about the Vodafone and Yahoo! strategic partnership. This morning it dawns that it is about free voice for advertising. OK, so now I’m not so happy. Its one thing to improve mobile search services with free targetted ads. But to position free voice with advertising? It sounds misguided to me.

When are mobile operators going to open their eyes and realise that voice is the killer service on mobile. Free does not equate to a strong business case. When I talk to my friend, lover, mother etc on the phone do I want adverts to disturb us? NO WAY.

The price of communication is not for sale to advertisers and Vodafone is making a mistake.

The solution is to take another look at home zone services and make them more affordable to really lock-in new users.
