Vodafone ‘mulling purchase’ of Spain’s Yoigo

German cable operator Kabel Deutschland another purported target

Britain’s Vodafone is said to be secretly mounting a bid for Spanish mobile phone provider Yoigo, though acquisition could cost it between 750 million and 1 billion euros ($989 million-$1.32 billion).
According to The Sunday Times, Yoigo – which has 3.5 million subscribers – is being primed for sale by its owners TeliaSonera AB, a Nordic telco, which shelved an auction of the business last year when bids fell short.
Now Vodafone is said to be eyeing up a purchase, though also likely to bid are France Telecom and Spain’s Telefonica.
Earlier this month Vodafone was also said to be preparing a bid for Germany’s biggest cable operator Kabel Deutschland whose acquisition would allow the UK operator to sell lucrative bundles of mobile, fixed-line and TV services across Europe, buttressing otherwise declining revenues from its mobile stream.
