Find & Go from Vodafone, Telmap and Multimap
Now, I thought that Vodafone already had a mobile mapping service –but this must be something new. Apparently Vodafone UK has teamed with Telmap and Multimap and a new service called Find & Go has been born.
Find & Go also is giving me some kind of déjàvu from something or another.
So what is this?
It is a PC and mobile location based service. You use the PC and then get mobile driving directions from Mulimap on the phone. It is voice based turn-by-turn driving information. It is exclusive to Vodafone UK for three months.
What else?
GPS seems to be a requirement. It is available on 8 GPS devices and several more using a Bluetooth Ring GPS service.
From the press release
“Building on the success of Vodafone SatNav we wanted to provide even more customers with access to the best location based services on their phone. To do this we’ve made the mapping and local search available to all customers without a need to subscribe,” says Al Russell, Head of Internet Services at Vodafone UK . “With some great new features Find & Go now gives customers everything they need to find and travel to their chosen destination with the utmost ease.”
Jeff Kelisky, CEO of Multimap adds: “Customers are expecting increased convergence of their online and mobile experiences. This deal makes it simple for Multimap.com and Vodafone customers to send direction information to their mobile phones from the web so they can navigate while on the go for a seamless experience. We will continue to innovate and harness the combined technology of Multimap and Microsoft to provide more comprehensive information and a more connected user experience for mobile phone users.”
“Our partnership with Vodafone takes mobile navigation further than ever before, using mobile and web to deliver a totally new experience” said Oren Nissim, CEO at Telmap. “Find & Go’s new features provide consumers with an experience that goes beyond turn-by-turn navigation, the availability of real-time local information and the technology to get you there go hand-in-hand when delivering tomorrow’s mobile location services.”
What we think?
I suppose GBP 5 per month is affordable for this service. I mean for my car – I paid EUR 4000 for a navigation system and my BMW directory service is on top of that for EUR 250 per year. If Vodafone could add something like that to this offer it would rock. It would also be a lot cheaper (GBP 60 per year - bargain!)
My only concern is the is Bluetooth GPS key ring – what does it mean? I did some searches and it seems to be an alternative based on proximity –but is it as accurate?
