Rating: is something better around the corner?

By Bena Roberts

We have raved about Vringo in the past but at 3GSM I went to enterprise Israel stand to see the live demo and the company didn’t have any time for me. Not one to hold grudges – I went again and still no demo. So apparently the company has launched another new video sharing content community – but we haven’t seen it and we haven’t tested it and so we have no idea if it’s any good.
On the other hand, competitor to Vringo Host Telecom has checked out the services and had the following to say on the company and offer.

‘The Vringo intelligence is the handset and the content is transferred across the network using data connectivity capability (which, in turn, is similar to a Gigafone/Russian application). As such, Host is ahead in that we can apply any mixed media, at any time…ie we can target transmit any ad/content and charge per individual consumption…more flexible and cost effective.
Vringo seems more of an Internet model type application (intelligence distributed) rather than the centralised telco application. However, they may not need a MNO tie-up in the same way that Host does.’
