Wapple powers mobile phone exchange site

Rating: Possibly the UK’s first mobile accessible valuation service

With the likes of Orange and Vodafone encouraging their customers to trade up to a 3G iPhone, CeX (the former Computer eXchange) decided it needed a mobile presence to tap into the UK’s 100 million second-hand handset market. Wapple got the job and delivered a new site in time for the pre-Christmas rush.

Now CeX has launched its mobile site – http://m.webuy.com – which consumers can access via the mobile phone they are using or another they may wish to sell.

The company claims it is believed to be the first mobile valuation and trading service in the UK. CeX also believes it can now target potential customers in a much more direct and cost effective way.

It will be using SMS push campaigns with a WAP link return path and mobile banners that link directly to the CeX mobile site.

CeX commisioned Olea Communications who then engaged THT Consulting to advise on how best to deliver a mobile version of the web experience for.

After short-listing three mobile web companies, THT recommended that Wapple could deliver the exacting requirements against budget and in a tight time frame for a pre-Christmas launch.

Wapple has built and is hosting the mobile service, which included the creation of the API that communicates with CeX’s central servers.

All handsets traded in are repaired and re-cycled where possible through CeX’s stores and web site.

The good news is that CEX’s price proposition means that it aims to pay considerably more than the existing competitors trading only via web.

So not only can you go green by re-cyling your handsets, you can also make an extra shilling by doing so.
