Rating: Lots of hints from reliable sources
All the signs are that the very latest release of Windows Phone (7.5) – better known as the Mango update – will arrive tomorrow. The initial source for this rumour is the Windows Phone Dev Podcast team. They’ve been chatting prior to their ‘BUILD conference’ which takes place … you guessed it, tomorrow September 15th . Now GoMo News has run plenty of Mango release stories before but when we quoted Microsoft’s manager for the Nordic territories, Peter Wissinger, here asking the handset manufacturers why they were hanging around, it was obvious the release was imminent. The final piece of the jigsaw comes to us via winrumors here which discovered a very interesting update on the Vodafone (Australia) support site here. It implies Vodafone is merely waiting for Microsoft to give the go-ahead.The Australia hot tip is significant because it counters the argument that while Microsoft might have finished doing its stuff, the operators hold back until they’ve done their own testing.
Well this very definitely doesn’t apply to the Aussies because the web site says, “Testing for Windows Phone ‘Mango’ firmware update has been completed and approved. Awaiting deployment from Microsoft.”
Couldn’t be more specific really and it applies to the HTC 7 Trophy.
Now this is what the podcast contained. “We have been told by various sources that Mango will be dropping, and the final tools will be dropping for developers. So that should be interesting and something to look forward to.”
As Expert Reviews points out here … “The Windows Phone Dev Podcast team do have prior for being a reliable source of pre-release information.”
This includes having broken the news of the developer release of Mango ahead of official word from Microsoft.
The question which nobody seems to be addressing, however, is this … “If Mango is out tomorrow, why isn’t anyone hinting that Nokia will make its announcement?”
GoMo News is expecting more than just one WP7 handset – the Sea Ray – to be released. Nokia likes to have at least two or three variants on the same theme. So where are they???
