Rating: 3G company touted in this US-based scam

Normally GoMo News would completely ignore this kind of mailshot but the words “3G wireless” caught our eye. The spam we received was trying to persuade people to buy into the Dragon Capital Group which turns out to have a very interesting 3G subsidiary.

The subsidiary in question is Shanghai Cnnest Technology which claims to be “dedicated to commercial Third-Generation (3G) wireless applications and mobile business solutions.” Which is right up our street, of course.

Presently, however, Cnnest seems to have a 3G-based platform offering real estate services through the mobile Internet – www.cnnest.net

Mysteriously, the other web site Cnnest operates - http://www.xinkom.com appears to be nothing more than a games site.

The web site says Cnnest has partnered with a Hong Kong based company, Tencent, to offer 3G online services to China Mobile and China Unicom.

Luckily, Tencent  is covered thoroughly on Wikipedia and offers a successful mobile instant messaging service known as QQ.

So, for those crazy enough to want more information on these spurious stock tips, if you’re based in the USA you can text ‘News’ to 68494. The service claims to be free but GoMo News definitely can’t vouch for that.

QQ is to China what Facebook is to Europe and North America, it’s not just for mobile either. Unfortunately 3G is a tad late to evolve out here..
