Why device range is essential for on device portals: Action Engine adds BREW
Rating: I want you; but I can’t have you

Action Engine has been quiet of late – but we feel that this probably had more to do with VP of Marketing Anne Baker having a baby and being on maternity leave that an actual loss of market position. Anyway – Action Engine has increased its device platform and is now available on 21 new BREW devices.
So What?
I realize that this might not initially seem edgy wireless news. In fact; it’s very close to boring. That is until we examine the potential of the ODP (on device portal) space and why it isn’t near its potential.
ODP is all about the device. Pre-installation is essential to drive uptake. Consumers then can test and use services and try things out in their own space without having to download it first. This usually drives uptake of services.
I am writing another post on SurfKitchen and I touch on this issue in a lot more detail.
From the press release:
“We understand that device support is a real concern for any company that wants to offer their consumers the usability and personalization benefits that an on-device portal can provide. That is why Action Engine has made the testing and certification of devices one of the most critical elements of our operational strategy,” said Scott G. Silk, president and CEO of Action Engine. “A lot of our competitors claim to support large numbers of wireless devices but few of them have actually completed the rigorous testing process associated with a wireless operator launch. The addition of these new BREW handset models to our supported device portfolio continues to set Action Engine apart as the market leader in the on-device portal space.”
