WIN Launches WAP Intranet and Extranet Service

WIN Plc announces the UK launch of an intranet and extranet service – which is based around a fully managed WAP Portal.

What?
Is this like a managed service WAP platform offering updates on celebrity, company news, feed and SMS/ MMS and Video.

Yes. It seem as though it is. Interactivity is vital for Mobile 2.0 and Win seems to have created a portal for hosting conversations with fans, employees and consumers.

From the press release:

“We believe this is a first-of-a-kind service – combining the power of intranet communications with the wide availability of mobile phones to provide improved staff and partner dialogue,” said Graham Rivers, CEO of WIN.

The service, already deployed to one of the UK’s largest Network Operators, enabling enhanced communication between their retail stores, has been very successful.

“We have found that the WAP portal both empowers employees to communicate more with management as well as fans with celebrities and gives companies the ability to make contact with customers and suppliers on a whole new level,” Rivers explained. “We are already experiencing healthy customer demand for the service across the UK and plan to roll it out Worldwide in the next 12 months.”

What we think?

Hmm. The press release says that one of the UK’s largest mobile operators already deploys this – which is great news. I think I can guess which one, but I won’t say just in case I am wrong! But within a mobile network or to consumers a self made cross communication portal with blogging facilities sounds very interesting.

Why? Well giving employees or consumers the chance to speak, gossip, rave or rant is a great way of new media communication. As a believer that old media will be made redundant as 2.0 really kicks off –these types of services clearly show how people, ideas, and fun can be managed within one group.

Be it fans, the workforce, agencies – offering a WAP portal that is managed and enables instant interaction is a loyalty winner.

In fact, I spoke to WIN’s PR agency and I am going to get a preview of this. More later.
