Wishpot shopping social network goes mobile
Rating: don’t attempt to say this after a glass of wine
Wishpot, the American social networking site based around shopping, has gone into beta with its mobile offering.
Now users can take a picture with camera phone and send it to their wishpot account or send a text message to MYWISH.
According to the company blog, this is how it can work:
• I am often at a bookstore like Barnes & Noble and I see a book that looks interesting, but I don’t know if it’s any good or if the price is good. With the new text message feature I can send an SMS with the ISBN of the book to MYWISH to (1) add the book to my wishlist (2) get ratings and reviews.
• when I am shopping downtown I can take the pictures of a few jackets (or shirts, or shoes) that I like, get them on my wishpot and have the boss (=my girlfriend) approve which one I should buy.
• I am at BestBuy (or name your favourite gadget) and I am about the impulse buy a new sound system. I send a text to Wishpot, see the price online and say, “Wow, it’s cheaper”. This has couple of benefits (1) it saved me money (2) I am not “impulse” buying only to regret it later.
Surely this take the social of out shopping? This isn’t the first mobile-based price checking etc shopping service – Sprint launched one powered by GPShopper LLC, which, as the name suggests exploits GPS too – the good thing about the wish pot service is that it’s not network-specific and also, there is no monthly subscription fee.
