World mourns Apple’s Steve Jobs death

Rating: Whole ICT community pays tribute

As the whole ICT community mourns the death of Steve Jobs, we shouldn’t forget that Steve gave the world much more than just an iconic smartphone – in the iPhone. He has shaken up more than just one industry. He gave the world of computing the mouse. He displaced a global brand – Sony – in the consumer electronics sector through the iPod. He helped to revolutionise film making through Pixar. He’s just finished creating a brand new computing sector – tablets – through the iPad. And he’s knocked Nokia off its perch with the iPhone. Jobs is not directly responsible for all of these things – Apple is. But without Jobs Apple wouldn’t be where it is today. Our founder, Bena Roberts – pays her own very personal tribute to Steve – Goodbye Steve Jobs – here.

The Apple web site has a picture of Steve – and nothing else – on its home page today (October 6th 2011) along with the words Steve Jobs 1955-2011.

Naturally, we’ve all had a long time to get prepared for the news of his death ever since he stepped down back in August [2011]. But it has still hit the huge band of Apple devotees very hard indeed.

It’s also highly unfortunate timing given the harsh treatment that all of the Press (including us) has only just meted out to Apple over the iPhone 4S.

So, we’ll just echo the words of one long time Steve Jobs admirer – analyst, Richard Holway. “I could say “the world is poorer for his death”. But, much more appropriate, is that we are all the richer in our lives for what Steve Jobs brought us. Thank you, Steve.”
