Rating: relax, it won’t happen

By Annie Turner

Lior Baussi is a man on a mission. He thinks lots of us would like to talk to each other, but lack the bottle, so if we all had an RFI-type chip in our mobiles we could send people we like the look of anonymous SMS or MMS and see how they react. If it’s favourable, take it from there.

Mr Baussi reckons it’s “Ideal for dating in parks, at festivals, in cafes, at parties and bars, but not range limited like Bluetoothing, this radar technology allows the user to find and message anyone in [40 metre] range”.

No definitely not. In the first place it’s weird behaviour and even if it weren’t, there’s no way you’re gonna get a handset maker to agree to putting an extra chip in: you practically have to commit a murder to get a software app on a phone, never mind a chip. He says operators will love because it will generate more messages and is talking to a large European operator. He believes that operators will then get Tier 2 handset makers to include the chip. We’ll see.

In the meantime, a tip for Mr Baussi, who is charming, just go and talk to people, but put the cigarette out first.
