Worldwide mobile handset sales to grow to 1.4 billion in 2009

Gartner Forecast: Mobile Devices, Worldwide, 2003-2012

Sales of mobile devices will reach 1.28 billion units in 2008 and grow to just over 1.4 billion in 2009. Growth will depend increasingly on emerging markets as mature regions, such as Western Europe, Japan and North America reach saturation. This will result in slower growth of 11% in 2008 and 10% in 2009.
