Yahoo! Tests Graphical Image Advertising
Rating: Too Soon!
Mobile advertising is in its embryonic stages but the potential cash cow that advertising on mobile represents – is leading search providers to test new services.
In the past six weeks Yahoo! has announced that it will add search marketing on mobile to its portfolio and has teamed up with Bango! Now its filling its stockings by testing the sending of graphical ads to mobile phones.
Is Christmas coming early for Yahoo! Are its attempts at mobile advertising are catapulting its position in the mobile space to mobile advertising and search leader? Yes and No.
Yahoo! is enforcing itself as an innovator… but is it all too much too soon?
Shouldn’t Yahoo crawl before its starts walking?? Its just too early to think about graphical search with the user interface and mobile experience as poor as it currently is.
No “real” money is being made on mobile as yet from advertising. The mobile web is a long way off becoming a sticky community or place for social networking etc. The mobile web is (unfortunately) crap.
Add advertising to the equation and the user experience will not improve.. in fact it could get worse.

I realise its being tested. I also realise that its early days. My thoughts centre around several issues -
Comment made on November 8th, 2006 at 1:34 pmwouldn’t it be wiser to re-invest or to improve the mobile web experience; before trying to create a new revenue stream from it?
