Rating: look where you’re going

Restaurant, nightlife and hotel guide publisher ZAGAT has launched Zagat.mobi, an ad-supported mobile web site, which offers content for most big US cities, London and other destinations around the world.

Users can link listing details – such as addresses, phone numbers and opening hours – send SMS to those listed and use the links for directions, film times and airlines.

The company partnered Third Screen Media, a subsidiary of AOL, and Winstar Interactive Media, a division of Interep Interactive, to manage and sell advertising on the new mobile site. Users can rate their experiences and make recommendations that Zagat.com subscribers can on ZAGAT.mobi.

It is my suspicion that this last attribute is the one people will find most useful. Certainly checking out hotels before booking has saved me from some truly gruesome experiences. Not sure though that people will think much of having to pay USD 24.95 for a year’s subscription though to get at those opinions – after all, one can find just about everything free on the Internet.
