ZapitSMS releases new mass SMS service - we check it out

ZapitSMS has developed a PC to mobile platform, using SMS text messaging. The service includes bulk SMS from your computer, Web based SMS, a shared corporate address book and scheduled SMS.

It also includes a free 25 text test run… so we thought we’d give it a look!

But first… from the release:

Daniel Millerson, spokesperson for Race River said “ZapitSMS is extremely easy to install and use. You can start sending SMS messages within minutes of setting up your account. We have considered the current economic climate in setting our pricing for ZapitSMS. It is very simple and straight forward with no access or setup fee, user licence charges or lock-in contract. There are no charges for receiving SMS text messages and no software licences to purchase. You only pay for the messages you send at very competitive rates. It doesn’t matter if you need to send a few messages or few thousand, our pricing plan works for individuals and organisations of all sizes”

What did we think?

The press release pushed the simplicity of the service quite heavily. The site promised that setting up an account and getting ready to send SMS would take a matter of minutes. I was interested to see if it would live up to this promise. The process began very quickly.

After a few short questions, I was asked to confirm my identity through my mobile.

A few moments later, a short code was sent to my phone, which I entered onto the site. My account was now active! The entire thing took less than 5 minutes. Unfortunately, that’s where the ease of use stopped. After confirming my account, I tried to log back in and was greeted with:

This continued for more than half an hour before I could finally log on and send a few SMS… which arrived immediately. The more complicated tools, like bulk and scheduled SMS, require the download of the ZapitSMS Client. But everything is presented in a clean, easy-to-understand format. Example:

So there it is. ZapitSMS does work as quickly and simply as claimed, when the site is operational.

Also: yet another SMS company! As the market looks shakier and shakier, more people pile onto the pillar of stability that is SMS.

Thanks for your article on ZapitSMS and we are sorry for the problems that you had using our SMS service.

We had a short outage on one of our internet links at the time of your test. Although it is not published (yet), you could have continued to use the service using on www2.zapitsms.net using our backup internet connection.

The ZapitSMS client for Windows automatically uses the backup link so the user should not have noticed any problems.

We are investigating the outage and taking steps to ensure the system is always up and running and accessible.

    Thanks again for your review.

It is great news. But I have another free mobile software using which I can send free sms. It is Messmo..

Try it and share your views with me.

Messmo is an easy to use mobile application that offers you an intuitive way to communicate with your friends and colleagues through recorded voice messaging.
