Rating: mobile social networking rocks

By Annie Turner

Internet Mobile Group (IMG) says that its www.zedge.net, the online social community for mobile users and user generated free content provider, has now topped 5m registered users.

The site hosts complimentary content for mobile phones, with over 250 million pieces of content already downloaded. Zedgers generate, upload, download or view and share wallpaper, themes, videos, ringtones, games and other free mobile content. Zedge also hosts a social community and its own blog, zedgeheadz (http://blog.zedge.net), focusing on the world of mobile content.

According to research firm ABI Research, mobile social communities are expected to more than triple their current scope of approximately 50 million members to reach 174 million members by the year 2011.

Actually, we think it’ll probably grow faster than that – after all, almost 4bn people have phones compared with 1bn PCs.
