T-Mobile has signed up for Zi Corporation’s Qix mobile search and discovery service.
We first wrote about this here and we guessed T-Mobile was the operator. Qix is an embedded software solution that provides intelligent interfaces on mobile devices. It will be available on 25,000 T-Mobile Nokia N70 mobile devices. More devices are expected follow in 2007.

This is particularly interesting to us as T-Mobile is reverting from its open Internet strategy back to t-zones and its home-grown portal. The company is expected to announce another deal with a white label mobile search brand any day now. The focus form the open web to local content, digital content and discovery of own branded services is essential for mobile operators in the mobile search space.

The introduction of mobile advertising on mobile means it will be harder to keep users faithful to services unless the content advertised is from the operator brand. This is the next step in the mobile search evolution.

Qix will be free for consumers and this agreement is global.

Matthew Dove, T-Mobile UK’s Head of Internet & Email Products, said, “T-Mobile is the only network to offer this innovative product to the UK consumer market. Having a tool that will enable users to make the most of their phones will certainly enhance the user experience and the service to our customers”.
