Bitstream pushes to get BOLT mobile browser put on more phones before shipping

bolt Bitstream is the software company that maintains the BOLT mobile browser - one of the two major independent mobile browsers available. Not content with just getting user downloads (1 million installs by the middle of last year, now up to nearly 4 million), Bitstream really wants to get BOLT pre-loaded on mobile devices by original equipment manufactureres (OEMs). To further that goal, today it announces the launch of a special OEM version of the browser.

booksMuch like in the music industry, authors often find that the vast majority of their money goes to their publisher. Since most authors couldn’t possibly handle the cost of publishing thousands of books, that’s often not too bad a trade. But today Wattpad and Lulu have announced a partnership that could prove that authors can make money from publishing their works on the mobile internet.

The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) has released its report on the state of Australian communications sector for the last year. ezcode Biodefense Solutions is one of many American companies that produces a hand sanitizer product. Zytrel XP is an anti-bacterial hand gel - the kind of which is much more popular in America than it is in Europe, and Biodefense is attempting to differentiate itself from the competition. And so it has announced a deal with mobile barcode company Scanbuy to place 2d barcodes on Zytrel packaging.

apple-quattroWhen Google announced its planned $750 million purchase of mobile advertiser AdMob, it caused something approaching jubilation in many quarters. It also caused a hell of a lot of skepticism and uncertainty - the purchase is currently mired in legal objections. But Apple evidently thought it was a good idea, as sources are now reporting that the maker of the iPhone will be purchasing its own mobile advertiser: Quattro Wireless.

According to a “leak”, Sprint is now following up with a 4G version of its own called Overdrive - which combines 3G and 4G wireless with a pretty sweet file sharing option.

qtel-logo1Up until a few years back Qtel held a monopoly on mobile networks in the small and extremely rich Arab emirate of Qatar. That monopoly was broken up by the state recently enough, though Qtel is still the big man on campus. However, the company is very eager to retain its customer base in the face of increasing competition. And so we see deals like the one it just announced - where owners of Nokia devices will get 1GB of free mobile internet every month until the end of March.
